Florida Auto Insurance Companies Questions
Reader Question
I’ve been insured for 3 years and have no accidents or tickets, but my insurance company still isn’t issuing me any discounts for my careful driving. I’ve called them quite a few times and they say I need another 24 months. I’d really like to lower my rates but I don’t know if I’m comfortable cutting my coverage down. Is it standard practice to require 5 years of good driving before I can get a price break?

Hi Jess, you are correct in your thinking. 5 years is a long time to make you wait for those discounts. Many companies will you offer a good driver discount immediately if you have a clean record! Traditionally a citation will take up to 7 years to expunge from your driving record, but if you’ve never received one nor been involved in any accidents, you should look into a different company! Take a look at the “Compare Quotes” link at the top of the page, it will help you find a company immediately that may be able to offer you a better rate for the same coverage. Best of luck and keep up that good driving!

Reader Question
I’m a collector of antique and exotic vehicles, but I’ve been having trouble finding a company that will even offer me insurance for certain collectors’ cars. They don’t seem to understand that these vehicles are driven on the road only a few miles a year, and sometimes not at all! I’m merely interested in coverage in the event of a flood, storm, or some other unforeseen event. What’s my best course of action?

Hi Kevin, thanks for your question. Yes, there are companies that will insure collectors’ cars specially. Many companies offer a discount for a vehicle that is driven less than 3,000 miles a year. You may have to provide proof in the form of an odometer statement, but it stands to reason that the less time a vehicle spends on the road, the less likely it is to be involved in a collision! Please check the link at the top of the page and you’ll find some additional options for companies in your area that will be able to specially insure your collection. Best wishes.
